SLUGS / MARISSA LONGSTREET
Marissa Longstreet is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist, and the creative force behind SLUGS, the alt-rock band she fronts. She found her footing early on the city's nascent Eastside rock scene, and in the years since has built a catalog defined by restless, emotionally direct songwriting. Her sound draws from a wide range of touchstones, the melodic tenderness of Linda Perhacs on one end and the spitfire energy of Thee Oh Sees on the other, and her live delivery has been singled out for its range, a voice that moves from an almost inaudible croak to a full-throated bellow within a single verse.
SLUGS has released two EPs and toured alongside LP, The Districts, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Goon and Joywave, building a following through a run of singles that have drawn write-ups from American Songwriter, Atwood Magazine, FLOOD Magazine, Buzzbands LA, Occhi Magazine, The Indy Review, Naluda Magazine, and Hey Girl Magazine, which named her an artist to watch. Whether she is processing conflict, chasing carefree innocence, or working through what she has called "a voyage of floating in space," Longstreet writes with an honesty that critics keep returning and a band behind her built to match it.
